There's this 3+ network of PC's and 3stations, see, and there's this Sun 386i/150 Roadrunner that's gonna be a dedicated dialup server. Unfortunately, the Roadrunner cant be tied directly into the 3+ network (sez a Sun rep), so as a temporary fix I'm planning on having a PC dedicated as an intermediary. I figure I'll put a Sun PC ethernet board in and use NFS to give the PC access to the Sun's filesystem, and additionally put a 3C501 board in to allow access to the 3+ net's fileserver. Then I'll just run a batch file on this intermediary that will do the necessary transfers from one side to the other. And now, the rash of questions: I know this is ugly, but will it work? Or will the two boards have some hairy interrupt contention between them? How should I really be doing it? Also, for future installations, we're planning on phasing in Novell stuff. I'm pretty new to network hardware and almost as new to network software. What do I need to do to allow the network of PCs and the Sun to interact more transparently? Will the fact that we are moving in the direction of Novell be helpful? What do you think? Please mail me. Be seeing you...
