Certain Ethernet transceivers which have replaceable tap heads may have come with bnc heads which are not very secure. I have apparently two different runs of these heads - one type has the bnc connector jammed into a piece of spring metal, the other has a nut on the bnc connector. Of the first type, one was probably dropped once causing the force fit to break. The contact pin was also broken. However, it tested good at first apparently because the break was not very clean. I finally noticed the bnc connector lying apart from the rest of the transceiver and took a look at it and some other units.
