Does anyone know if anyone makes a starlan-to-eternet gateway similar to the Kinetics fastpath for Appletalk-ethernet? Thanks -- Lanny R. Udey Assoc. Dir.Biomedical Computing "The Best way to Predict the Future is to Invent It."...Alan Kay

The RetixGate Local Bridge is a series of 802.3 bridges where each side is configurable to either Ethernet or StarLan. The 2244 is 15-pin Ethernet or StarLan, the 2255 is BNC (thin) Ethernet or StarLan. They're cheap (list $1755 for the 2244), fast enough for most environments (claimed 10K packets/sec for monitor, 6K for transfer), and the several we've used have worked fine. You can get a network-manageable version for $500 more, but the manager software (which runs on a PC) is as of yet exquisitely awful. I have no connection with Retix, other than their having given me a few posters. You can reach them at 213-399-2200 in the People's Republic of Santa Monica. - RL "Bob" Morgan Networking Systems Stanford
