[comp.dcom.lans] Sytek LocalNet, TCP-IP & PC_NFS

clp@beartrk.UUCP (Charlie Pilzer) (10/18/88)

We have a number of PCs (IBMS and clones) on a Sytek LocalNet using Sytek

in using PC-NFS to a Gould 9004 running UTX/32.

The Gould will be hooked up to the broadband via a Sytek 4520/4580 RF modem
that looks like an Ethernet Transceiver. A Sytek 8050 bridge will be
used to translate from the 1 MB channel to the ethernet equivalent channels.

The problem is that the Sun software does not include a driver for the
Sytek board. The Sytek board presents a NETBIOS interface implemented in
firmware but there is a TCP/UDP package available from Sytek.

For various reasons, it would be desirable to run PC-NFS. Also on the
network are some Suns and some other boxes yet to be determined.

Because the network is in place and the cost in replacing the network interface
cards in the PCs would be substantial, we would like to use the 6110s and
PC-NFS.

We are interested in ideas that may help us solve our problem. We would be
most interested in talking to anyone who has PC-NFS running on a Sytek broad
band net.
