The NI5210 uses the Intel ethernet LSI. It's a very flexible board, that can reside in a wide range of I/O and shared memory addresses. A developer's programming kit is available. We pay around $ 275 for them, which includes an academic institution discount. They run as much as 3 times faster than the 3c501 under similar circum- stances. The 3Com 3c501 costs us around $ 400. Your software may be the limiting factor. The NI5210 is compatible in many ways with the NI5010 and may work in some applications without any software changes.
