We are planning to set up a lan in the Humanities College office here at Ohio State. The IBM folks are offering us on trial basis some hardware (PS/2 model 80 & 50s) and the PC LAN software (I have some info on their version 1.2, but that is ancient and there probably have been several upgrades since then). The PS/2 model 80 would serve as a server and initially there would be about 12-15 clients/users (the number may increase later) on PS/2 model 50's. What I would specially like to know is that what experiances have people had with ibm's PC LAN using the MCA (micro channel acrhitecture). Does anybody know what percentage of the LAN market is held by PC LAN - I know its not much since Novell has a huge share (70% ?) followed by I guess 3 Com and Banyan. How good is the the reseller support and/or the documentation supplied with PC LAN? There seems to be this big thing thing about MCA outdoing the AT bus etc. - has anybody actually experianced significant results with MCA. How about user interface? Is it customisable, menu/graphics driven? ..PJ
