I was watching packets on our local Ungermann-Bass broadband and noticed a Vendor code in the source address that was not x00DD00 (which is UB). The code I saw is 'xD0DD00'. We normally like to keep track of what we have attached to our LAN, so I preused our little cross-reference list and could not find this code. Anyone out there in netland know who the manufacturer is that corresponds to the hex code 'xD0DD00' ??? Thanks in advance for any help. -- Kenn R. [ ... ] We encountered a similar "strangeness". A "new" Unisys 7000/40 (Sperry for all the "old-timers", like me) advertizes an ethernet address of 8B:D9:9B:7F:FB:9F. The "manufacturer code" (8B:D9:9B) is not only not in the Urbaniak list, but also does not match the *known* code for the manufacturer of the board -- ACC. (The ACC code should be 08:00:03.) I understand these boards *can* have the ethernet address "loaded" programmatically, but our Systems person tells me this is NOT being done -- whatever the board squawks as its ethernet address is what's on the board (or in it's ROMs). Any insight into this from you folks out there? Personally, I think the address ROM is scrambled, fried, or otherwise "confused". -- John G Dobnick Computing Services Division @ University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee UUCP: <backbone>!uwvax!uwmcsd1!jgd INTERNET: jgd@csd4.milw.wisc.edu "Knowing how things work is the basis for appreciation, and is thus a source of civilized delight." -- William Safire
