Does anyone have any quantitative data or useful comments regarding possibly higher collision rates incurred by fan-out mux boxes. I always felt uncomfortable with the idea of using too many mux boxes because of the fact that several (sometimes over 10) ethernet drop cables get plugged into one box, which is basically connected to only one transceiver. I don't know what these boxes actually can or cannot do in their attempt to reduce conflicts between multiple drop cables trying to send down packets via a transceiver, but it sure doesn't look good to see too many of these things in a LAN. "We are seeing too many fan-out networks and not enough real ethernet networks." -- Maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. Hardware wizards please correct me if I'm wrong. -- Hwa Jin Bae UniSoft Corporation bae@tis.llnl.gov Emeryville, CA. ...{uunet,ucbvax,hoptoad,lll-lcc,sun,apple}!unisoft!bae
