I recently saw something which was pretty neat. We just got a Kinetics FastPath-4. The thin ethernet connector comes with a circle of fabric about 3 inches in diameter, with velcro on one face, half the face has "male" velcro and the other half has "female" velcro. The idea is that after you connect your cables to the T-connector, you fold the fabric over the T-connector and stick the mating velcro parts to each other to cover all the metal bits and keep it from being grounded by mistake. I've seen insulating shields like this in various designs: hard plastic clamshell things, heat-shrink tubing, etc, but this velcro thing takes the prize for cleverness. It works well, it's easy to put on and off, it's virtually foolproof and breakproof, and it's cheap to build. A tip of my hat to whoever thought of it. -- Roy Smith, System Administrator Public Health Research Institute {allegra,philabs,cmcl2,rutgers,hombre}!phri!roy -or- roy@phri.nyu.edu "The connector is the network"
