At our site we have to decide how we want to connect our Ethernet LANs: via Ethernet bridges or via IP routers. It concerns between 5 and 10 Ethernets, totally including about 500 systems (mainly UNIX systems). One reason for using bridges is the possibility to set up non-IP connections (e.g. via OSI) across Ethernet boundaries then. Reasons for using IP routers are security (e.g. keeping errors in system configurations on the local network) and potential load problems (caused by daemons on the UNIX systems). Please send me (by mail) any comment/suggestion/advise you know on this subject. -- -- ###### Jos Vos ###### Internet jos@idca.tds.philips.nl ###### -- ###### ###### UUCP ...!mcvax!philapd!jos ######
