I have noticed lots of PC-LAN traffic on this group, but unfortunately I haven't been paying close attention, so I apologize in advance if this topic has been recently addressed. I am trying to help an associate in an affiliated institution build an internal network and link that to our campus network. He has a microvax running VMS on one ethernet and he has PC-DOS machines and a 3com server on another ethernet. I can handle all the internet connectivity, but I am at a loss as to how to gateway his 3Mail system on his 3com network, his microvax VAXmail system, and our SMTP unix based mailers on our campus network. Neither DEC nor 3com has been very helpful to my associate and I am ignorant of these matters; therefore his frustration level is high. Could someone enlighten me on products that gateway 3Mail, VAXmail, and SMTP? It would seem to me that he should have a local gateway that understands 3Mail and VAXmail. One or both should understand SMTP. He is willing to put the gateway software either on a microvax or a PC/3server. I would appreciate some pointers or especially some actual implementation stories. Is there a better newsgroup for this question? Thanks. --Kent England, Boston University
