A friend who does not have net access asked me this last night, and I didn't have the answer; the need is fairly urgent, so... Situation: Company has Banyan based LANs in offices in San Jose, LA, and several other cities in the USA, and a VAX in LA. Currently the connections between the Banyans are limited to e-mail forwarding via twice-a-day automatic dial- up modem connections using Hayes 2400s. Problem(s): They want to provide dumb-terminal (i.e. VT24x) service in (currently) San Jose (eventually all over). Currently they need 10-12 now, eventually as many as 50. PC functionality is not required. They want to install one data link to San Jose, and connect both the LA Banyan and the LA VAX and the San Jose Banyan to it, as well as the San Jose dumb terminals. They want to have the fall-back of dial-up service for e-mail should the full-time data link die temporarily. Soltuion: (?) I imagine that some kind of async terminal support is available on Banyan, but up to 50? And what kind of leased line would be appropriate for the application?
