Keywords: VMSmail, uucp Several people at the Stony Brook Computing center-which is *still* not getting uucp mail-have come up with an interesting problem. There is a VAX or two running a dreadful thing called ALL-IN-ONE. It's lots of menus and such and the administrative types like it a lot. The problem is twofold: (1) we need a formal definition of the uucp protocol. From my occasional reading in net.unix-wizards, I gather that there is a protocol called "g" that is in common use. However, the SBCC does NOT have source code for any of UUCP (it's a port of SvR0). So, I'd like to request a copy of the protocol from someone out there or a pointer to where it can be FTP'd from the Arpanet. (This offer expires at the end of the month, when I'll be away from the all nets for several months). Second, before we go an reinvent the wheel, has someone invented/thought about/speculated about connecting VMSmail (Vaxmail?) whatever it's called to uucp? What they want to do is to have the ALL-IN-ONE administrative types to be able to send mail to the academic types which use Unix, both on the Univac and various campus Vaxen (mostly 4.15 BSD-not all of 4.2 works, or something). Third, can Kermit be grafted onto uucp as an additional protocol? The Kermits here have been jazzed up and are working nicely for transfers to all the various machines on campus. Ideally, what the person who has been assigned to this project wants to do is to have VMSmail<->UUCP, with the protocol for the transfer, if possible. Any hints, rumors, slander, or actual fact would be extremely welcome. If you know about the "g" protocol documentation or have had any experience with VMS-UUCP communications (no, we don't want to xmodem everything around; is there a VMS Level 4.x implementation of UUCP?) please send mail to the following addresses: ...decvax!philabs!sbcs!sbccsx!lbx ...decvax!philabs!sbcs!bnl44!lbx or !pmb ...decvax!philabs!sbcs!bnl44!davison arpa: davison@bnl44.arpa or davison@sumex-aim.arpa csnet: thru your favorite relay bitnet: kmarcu@sbbiovm.bitnet (very new-only yalevm & CUNY know about this connection at the moment) or mehcoib@sbbiovm.bitnet, ditto or genetics@sbbiovm.bitnet, also ditto Thanks very much for you patience in reading this! dan davison "deputy assistant junior guru"
