Someone I know is running Novell on ARCNET cards in their personal computers. They are presently using 93 ohm RGG2/U coaxial cabling. They are considering going to twisted pair using baluns between the BNC and a RJ11 phone line. I know from the ARCNET documentation that when using coax, the max. lengths from an active hub to a workstation is 2000 feet, and the max lengths to and from a passive hub is 50 feet. How is this different with twisted pair ? How are maximum line lengths affected when going to twisted pair ? ( I would guess the max line lengths are less because of greater line losses) Are there any rules of thumb ? What extra hardware if any would I need ? Has anyone configured twisted pair into ARCNET cards on a Novell network and had good success ? What limitations are placed on the network when using twisted pair (ie. max terminals) ? Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. -- Nawien Sharma, UUCP: nawien%ghp@mnetor.uucp BELL: (416)862-0430
