Many of the PC's in our company are presently networked with Banyan VINES, and eventually everything will be, including a few UNIX machines which speak TCP/IP. I'm not one of the people doing this, but my little UNIX TCP/IP LAN will be attached to the company net, and I'm trying to figure out what I get out of it, other than the ability to reach other TCP/IP hosts on the company net. I know that Banyan has software to support TCP/IP routing across VINES servers and to allow VINES to get its own packets routed by TCP/IP hosts. So far so good. I would like to be able to use TCP/IP to send something from my UNIX machine to the VINES server to be printed on their nice laser printer, but no one here has been able to tell me if this will be possible. I understand that I'll probably have to write the UNIX end of it, but does VINES provide anything on its end? It also might be nice if they could gateway between whatever VINES uses for mail, and SMTP. If anyone has previous experience with this, I'd like to hear from you. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Please email responses, I'll summarize if there is interest. -- Scott Hammond, R & D Associates, Marina del Rey, CA (213) 822-1715 : {zardoz,randvax,ladcgw,<site-with-router>}!rdahp!scott : scott@harris.cis.ksu.edu
