[comp.dcom.lans] Cabletron vs. TCL

haas@wasatch.utah.edu (Walt Haas) (09/01/89)

We have been buying Cabletron products for some time and have been quite
satisfied. Recently Ron Inouye from TCL came through town and offered us
a lower price for apparently equivalent products. They look OK to a first
approximation -- does anybody out there have real-world experience with
the TCL product line, in comparison with Cabletron?

Thanks in advance -- Walt Haas

We have been using the TCL products for about one year now and
have had no problems with them. They just work and work and ...

So, how can I get in touch with these guys? A non-800 phone number
would be just fine, and a fax number and a postal address to complement
it would be even better.

We have used both cabletron and TCL equipment for a number of years with
very good success. The cabletron tranceiver is slightly more expensive,
but you get some activity LEDs which can be helpful. Installation is
about the same, the edge might go to TCL, it's harder to mess up. In
the latest building we are wiring we are using cabletron primarily
because its size is about 1/4 inch smaller as installed on a cable
that runs in a tight conduit.
