I need to know what kind of limit's I wil run into in using repeaters
on ethernet. To make it simple for now, we will assume a linear configuration
of repeaters at the ends of the cable segments, and each repeater joins exactly
two segments.
1----->R<----->R<----->R<------2
Is there a limit to the number of repeaters I can have in this configuration?
Can each ethernet cable segment be the maximum length allowed for the media
type or is my distance from point 1 to point 2 still restricted to the maximum
length of a single cable segment. Do the repeaters reduce the maximum lengths
allowed becuase of delays in the repeater?
A couple of other questions:
What is typically the maximum length for an ethernet segment running
on fiber?
In a TCP/IP environment, would a Brouter have an IP address assigned
to it's interfaces. I am wondering how a Brouter would work to link
my class B lan with our buildings class C backbone.
Thanks in advance for any information
Troy
