We're running a arcnet Novell Netsever/286 V2.0 with 10 workstations. On the server we've installed MSWord and a PC version of XROFF for word processing. Question: How can we print MSWord and Postscript files to our Hewlett-Packard laser + thats config'ed as a parallel printer=0 on the netserver? I've been using -" nprint file.name printer=0 nt "(nt=notabs) but most of the output is trashed. All/any help would be greatly appreciated, we also have a DEC-LN03 (serial) that can be config'ed to the netserver but haven't tested yet. You should be able to print directly from MS WORD, using the capture command as provided with Novell. Capture re-directs output from the workstation's parallel port to the server, allowing you to have up to 3 printers captured. As for postscript, without additional hardware or a Postscript printer, you will not be able to send postscript files to the HP Laser and ahve them print (other than outputting Postscript language text). Hope it helps. Any more? 612-448-6433. UUCP: {rosevax, crash, orator}!orbit!pnet51!biggity ARPA: crash!orbit!pnet51!biggity@nosc.mil INET: biggity@pnet51.cts.com

Generally speaking the problem you are having is most likely in one of two places. 1) The most likely place is in you print job configuration. You will want to have the print job set up as follows: You want Bytw Stream set on. set autoendcap to no Set the device to hp_laserjet series 2+ Set the mode to (re-initialize) Set the timeout to about 5 Second. 2) The other place the problem could be is in Word, check to make sure that Word knows it's talking to a Hp laserjet. Note, the above is for printing MS Word Documents to a HP laserjet +. The Laserjet is not a Postscript printer, so printing postscript files to it is going to be a tad more dificult. I've heard of a cartrige that makes the Laserjet Postscript compatable, but if I remember correctly it was rather expensive. -Scott Hutchinson Systems Programmer/Network Manager VANCE Systems Inc.
