Now that we have our lan, we would like to start identifing the hog applications that seem to bring the network to a crawl.Any recomendations (less than $500)?

There are a few software packages I saw in the InterOP-89 show. However, I would still recommend to spend more and buy a "real thing": get HP LanProbe (a box which you hook up to your network) and a PC-based software (ProbeView). It will pay off in a long run. If you decide that you really must save money the CABLETRON LAN Specialist is a pretty fair troubleshooting and network monitoring tool. Personally I'd go for the HP but they are not worth the cost. --my opinion--
