M|I am looking for a way to network two PCs together. Currently one PC
M|is an AT and the other is a XT. The group that I am helping was

Shawn I presently am networking at XT portable and AT base

M|They would then like to be able to network the XT to the 386 machine
M|and then share files between the two. The problem is that they do
M|not want to make the 386 a dedicated server. They would still like
M|to have access to the 386 machine. The databse application is
M|already in use. They are wanting to run all of this under MS-DOS
M|3.3. I don't know if this can be done. I know this would not be any

That is the way my setup operates. Both machines can run independent
of each other and access the printer on the AT when needed. DOS 3.3A

M|Please email any response you have and I will summarize to the net if
M|there is enough interest. Thanks for any help you can give me.
M|P.S. They would like to be able to implement this w/o spending more
M|than $5000.

Hardware is next to minimal - no cards necessary (serial ports only and
a null modem cable. Cost is WAY below your maximum. If you want to spend
more you can. However my cost came to $150 (Canadian$). My solution was
a software package called MasterLINK from Applied Knowledge Groups, Inc.
It is a subset of their ZeroNet Local Area Network package. Fully
NETBIOS compatible and is upgradeable. My manuals unfortunately
don't have AKGs address or phone number as it is marketed in
Canada by RIMART INTERNATIONAL INC (416-283-2605).

It is extremely easy to setup and next to nothing to maintain. The only
thing I am weak on here is the networked database (as I don't have
a network version of DBASE etc to try out). But all other non-networked
software that I have tried worked flawlessly.

You might want to acquire a package just to get a feel for what you
might eventually want.

Good Luck
