In light of the recent discussion concerning the pros and cons of using twisted pair ethernet, and in consideration of the fact that we are on the verge of installing an ethernet local area network, I would greatly appreciate any information or recommendations regarding the following issues: (1) Who sells ethernet cards for PC's with a built-in twisted pair interface? How much do they cost? (2) Same as (1) but for Mac's. (3) Is it possible to fit a standard thinnet ethernet card with a twisted pair adapter, and if so, how does the cost compare to the cards with built-in twisted pair interfaces? (4) Are all brands of (PC) ethernet cards compatible with Sun's PC-NFS software? Or does each card come with its own NFS software? (5) How do the various cards compare when it comes to speed, error checking, serviceability, ease of use, manufacturer support, etc.? Thanks in advance for your advice. I'll post a summary if the number of responses warrants it. patrick goebel--romeo@lindy.stanford.edu
