I am relaying the following request from someone in our organization
who does not have net access. Please respond to me and I will pass
on the information. Please mail rather than post as I don't normally
read these groups.
thanks,
Don

We are currently running a DECNET LAN of approximately 100 users connected
via thinwire, and will be expanding to more than 200. Most of the users
are on PC's and are running DEC's ALL-IN-ONE office automation product. As
they are generally not computer-knowledgeable, maintaining network integrity
is a concern; we are also interested in ways of making network reconfiguration
easier.
We are looking at both DEC's unshielded twisted-pair wiring and the Amthenol
Thinnet Tap and Patch Cable Assembly. Can someone with experience using
these products tell us:
- does twisted-pair have any effect on the existing thinwire?
- how resistant is it to electromagnetic interference?
- is there a "better" brand/type of unshielded twisted-pair more
suitable to our environment? What spec's does it have?
- as DEC's twisted-pair only supports up to 230 feet compared to
606 feet for thinwire, are there cost savings to be gained?
- are the Amthenol products reliable?
- are they fully compatible with DEC's Ethernet products?
thanks for any information you can supply,
Judy
