Is there a port of Unix for the IBM System 3? These machines are apparently becoming available for $1k - $2k with comm lines, 100's of megabytes of disk, 600 lpm printer, etc and might make a good news machine or something. Pls respond via mail. -- Chuck Forsberg WA7KGX ...!tektronix!reed!omen!caf CIS:70715,131 Omen Technology Inc 17505-V NW Sauvie Island Road Portland OR 97231 Voice: 503-621-3406 Modem: 503-621-3746 (Hit CR's for speed detect) Home of Professional-YAM, the most powerful COMM program for the IBM PC

You must be kidding! These machines are so slow that you could probably only run one or two users. The data path is 8 bit. The only comm lines are for bysinc. They are usually sold without the big disk because the disk are the same ones that the mainframes use, and are move valuable in that market. The standard S/3 disk is the 5 megabyte 5440. The largest memory configuration is 256K, which is not enough for UNIX these days. I would say something about the 3270 terminals that the S/3 uses (if it has any terminals at all), but Amdahl has made them work under UTS. -- Alan Fargusson. { ihnp4, amdahl, mot }!drivax!alan
