[comp.dcom.lans] UTP LattisNet and 10BaseT

romeo@lindy.Stanford.EDU (Patrick Goebel) (02/14/90)

We are preparing to construct an ethernet-based LAN comprising
Macs, PCs, laptops, terminals and Sun workstations and we are being
quoted by a company called The Network Connection for the installation
of a SynOptics Lattisnet running over unshielded twisted pair (UTP).
Has anyone had experience with either this installation company or
UTP LattisNet, or both?

Also, I've been led to understand that current LattisNet
implements a proprietary version of CSMA/CD 802.3. With all the talk
about the imminent ratification of 10BaseT, does anyone know if
SynOptics is planning a migration path to the new standard (I'd like
to hear the answer from someone OTHER than a SynOptics phone
salesperson).

Thanks for any experience you care to share,
