My government agency is interested in adding TCP/IP to our Ethernet LAN's, to run simultaneously with our existing XNS networking. First, the setup: o VAX 11/750's running 4.2BSD; o Commercial XNS networking product named "Fusion" from a company called Network Research; o 6 IEEE 802.3 Ethernet LAN's; o Interlan NI1010A UNIBUS Ethernet Controllers. Our vendor insists that the stock BSD TCP/IP cannot be compiled into the VAX kernel as long as the Fusion XNS networking is also in the kernel. We are told we need to buy Network Research's TCP/IP Fusion in order to run both protocols. Can anyone comment on the accuracy of this statement? (We do, by the way, have the GNU tape which contains the 4.3BSD networking source.) Having and using the TCP/IP source naturally seems preferable to buying more commercial stuff. Does anyone have other comments that would point us in the proper direction? Please note that E-mail replies should go to the address shown below.
