[comp.dcom.lans] PS/2 Mod 30-286 + Ethernet = Problem

ccoombs@pilot.njin.net (Cliff Coombs) (02/25/90)

Is anyone out there having a problem with IBM PS/2 model 30-286 and
attaching it to an ethernet? I've tried a Sytek 4140 card and a
NE2000 card with no luck. We are still using Netware 2.0a, could this
be the problem? Does anyone have a 30-286 working with a different
Ethernet card? I've heard the 30-286 bus is not quite standard,
T or F ?

Thanks in advance!

We have it working with Western Digital ethernet boards. Some initial
problems were solved after speaking with WD. We actually had to lie to
SHGEN about what memory address was being used! (We're using Netware 286
2.15). There is something funny about the machine, to the extent that
IBM's original token ring board doesn't work (or doesn't work reliably);
for token ring you have to use IBM's second token ring adapter.
