I just bought a copy of FTP Softwares PC/TCP plus (includes PC NFS) support. I'm trying to connect with an Ultrix machine and am having problems. I tried calling FTP Software to find out what the problem was and was told to contact my Vendor for support of PCNFS. FTP Software provides a pcnfs daemon which apparently only works with Sun machines. On the PC side it says it is mounting, asks me for a password and then says that the Authentication daemon is not responding (or words to that effect). The kind woman from FTP Software told me to get out a lan tracer and watch packets go back and forth. If this was something like NCSA Telnet plus with nfs support (doesn't exist), I'd get my netwatch program out right away no questions. We payed for this though and if worked we'd liked to buy more copies. The PC/TCP with out the plus seems very solid. The manual for the nfs support is very lacking also. Can anyone help me with a PCNFS daemon that works with Ultrix machines? or do I send my copy of PC/TCP plus back for a refund? thanks, mark -- edwards@vms.macc.wisc.edu UW-Madison, 1210 West Dayton St., Madison WI 53706

There is a program source which comes with PC/TCP Plus to support the secure authentication of users requesting a NFS mount. This program needs to be compiled and made available to allow your PC to use NFS. The program must reside on the NFS server. Hope this helps. -- Steven P. We would like to use FTP's package but prior releases use TOO MUCH memory when netbios and a redirector are installed. In our current configuration, FTP+netbios+redirector requires about 153K. Has this release reduced the memory requirements any? -- Mark Regester Information Systems & Services, NCR Peripheral Products Division NCR:654-8340 <M.Regester@Wichita.NCR.COM> (316)636-8340 <uunet!ncrlnk!ncrwic!m.regester> FAX:636-8889

Between 2.03 and 2.04, the NETBIOS got about 9Kb smaller, but nothing much else has changed. If you have a 386, you can use one of the memory managers (386-to-the-max, QEMM). You also don't say which redirector you're using. Some are smaller than others. Give us a call. -- James B.
