Fellow Novellers (novellees, well you get the picture), We have three somewhat stable Novell lans doing just fine here (three on TR -- one uses the 16M boards...Novell needs a better spec from IBM before the drivers that come for those boards make any difference speed- wise so the cost is justified --) with a fourth one coming up on UTP Ether (probably WDs cards...). For reasons unknown to me or anyone else, there's a push here on campus for UNIXification. Sooooo, I'm being told I have to link my lans on the TCP/IP network to other UNIX lans. So, the questions: Is there a product that runs either as a VAP or a NLM that allows a normal unix site to telnet into a Novell Server (better yet, a station!...that's probably pushing it). The lans I've described are all connected via gateways (P4200s from Proteon) to a campus backbone that has access to other UNIX hosts. Alternatively, could I get FTP's software and run that on the server then use normal TCP/IP tools from a UNIX host to access the server running NetWare/DOS (i.e. will FTP's software do the "client" side of TCP, but still allow access to DOS file for remote manipulation)? The final one is a biggie. I could probably load a copy of NCSA for each machine on the lan (NetWare side) to use the gateway, but, is there a NetWare compatible piece of software that would allow ALL the machines on the lan to use a server-based application for the same thing? I'm not sure what NCSA would do if multiple open requests were to hit the config.tel at once. Has anyone tried this? Many thanks in advance. If there's enough response, I'll post a summary to the nets (meaning you can direct mail a response or post). Thanks again! --Roger Jagoda --Cornell University --FQOJ@CORNELLA.CIT.CORNELL.EDU
