[comp.dcom.lans] Wang terminal mux over fiber???

dsmith@oregon.uoregon.edu (Dale Smith) (04/11/90)

This really isn't the right newsgroup to ask this question, but it is
the best I can think of. Sorry in advance to those people who don't
care to see this.

I have a Wang vs85 that drives a bunch of Wang 4230A, 2246C, and 2256C
terminals. The problem is that some folks are getting moved out of
their current location to another building and the vs85 is not going to
move. I have to figure out how to drive 8 to 10 of these Wang terminals
in a building a thousand feet away. I know I can pull 10 runs of the
dual-coax cable, but that seems kind of silly since I have fiber optic
cable between the buildings. This brings me to the point of the
posting.

Does anyone know of a multiplexor that will multiplex 8 to 10 Wang
baseband dual-coax terminals over a fiber pair??? Wang has a terminal
controller that plugs into the backplane and drives terminals over
fiber, but it is expensive and there isn't enough backplane left to run
it. Are there any third party solutions??? I know nothing about Wang
systems or networking.

Thanks in advance,
