[comp.dcom.lans] NetBIOS over TCP/IP?

SO-MJH@finou.oulu.fi (05/31/90)

Are there programs for PCs which provide NetBIOS over TCP/IP ,
that is, translate NetBIOS calls into TCP transactions?

Do these pgms conform to RFC 1001/1002 specifications?

Any help appreciated.

Mika

Excelan, Ungermann-Bass, CMC, InterLAN, 3Com and possibly others
support RFC 1001/1002 for DOS on their own hardware. FTP Software,
Wollongong and possibly others have hardware-independent Netbioses for
DOS. 3Com and Excelan have OS/2 Netbioses, and Syntax and NCR (at
least) offer Unix-based SMB file server products that use the RFC
1001/1002 protocols (although they don't present a Netbios programming
interface on the Unix system).
