Hello world!
We are experiencing problems with 3C503 cards on a segment of our
thin net Ethernet. There is a significant time lag on commands
executed from workstations using this card. Significant to the
point that something appear to be timing out.
This only occurs on ISA machines using this card on this segment.
There is a repeater on this end, but that (according to 3COM)
shouldn't have anything to do with it. We are technically about
100 feet too long on the segment, but we cut it back to just the
segment off of the repeater (real short .. 10-20 feet), and it still
didn't work.
Lag is most noticeable on commands that access the other server (going
across a T-1), however, it does affect several "local" commands.
Logins can take more than 2 minutes, likewise, logging out seems to
take a while as well. An NCOPY of some 40 files (total file size
about 300 K) took nearly half an hour. And the load on the network
was very light at the time.
We've tried trying it out in different locations, different cards,
different machines, same results. It doesn't affect the MCA machines
(using something like 3C523s) and the other ISA machine (using a
3C505). There aren't any memory conflicts in the setup, and, frankly,
we are stumped.
We are running Netware 2.15C, using IPX/SFX V2.15B, with a LAN
option of 3Com 3C503 EtherLink II V2.30EC (880518), and a hardware
configuration as follows: I/O = 350h, INT=5. RAM=CC00, BNC
Anyone out there have any good ideas as to what is going on?
Pat
