[comp.dcom.lans] NetBIOS and OS/2

alistair@microsoft.UUCP (Alistair BANKS) (06/09/90)

Microsoft Lan Manager, also sold as part of IBM Lan Server, 3Com 3+Open,
Ungermann-Bass Net One and under various other guises all have
full NETBIOS interfaces which are 100% compatible with any other
valid implementation of NETBIOS.

Of course, you must ensure that your network software is using the
same network stacks at both the DOS & OS/2 ends of the network,
ie NETBIOS on. TCP/IP, or NETBEUI, or NETBIOS on XNS, or DECNET etc.

DOS & OS/2 software, with compatible network stacks are all part of
the Lan Manager product.

FYI: LanManager not only has DOS & OS/2 connectivity, but also
Macintosh, through 3Coms add-on products, and also to Unix, through
"Lan Manager for Unix" as sold by Hewlett-Packard, AT&T and others,
and various other operating systems including VAX/VMS.
