[comp.dcom.lans] first alpha release 7.x of packet drivers

nelson@sun.soe.clarkson.edu (Russ Nelson) (07/28/90)

Hi. The first alpha release 7.x of the Clarkson collection of PC
packet drivers is now available. You can FTP it from
sun.soe.clarkson.edu, in pub/ka9q, as alpha.arc (you can also fetch it
by mail from archive-server). Please note that this is an alpha test
release, and so should be kept far, far away from novice users. The
two big improvements as of this release are delayed initialization
(lets you continue booting from a Novell drive using the boot rom's
driver), and Ethernet/802.3 conversion (lets you avoid econfiging your
Novell server). We now have four new drivers, the Tiara LANCARD
driver, a Localtalk driver, NTI 16-bit driver and a Ungermann-Bass
PC/NIC driver.

See readme.1st and read.me for more details...

Please test these and report your experiences back to me, both good
and bad. I'm pulling a Larry Wall -- I'm off on a week's vacation as
of tomorrow. So, have lots of fun (I will!) and don't forget to mail
me a report.
