[comp.dcom.lans] 1.5 years later, still not novell w. tcpip

pcb@gator.cacs.usl.edu (Peter C. Bahrs) (08/01/90)

Yes, I have been trying to get the MCA Ungermann Bass board running
netware and tcpip concurrently.
  Yeah right....

Someone sent me mail the other day and said...
'Hey, the drivers for the UB NICPC board should work for the
UB NICPS2 board...same interface just a different architecture.'

So I said, 'Hmmmm...I guess I'll download hoards of software and try it.'

I got novell.exe with the new econfig and drivers...I got the new
alpha release 7 of the clarkson drivers... Printed a bunch of handouts
and actually read them...Things feel pretty good right now...

Ok, f:\ copy net$os.exe net$os.bu
     f:\ filer ....
     f:\ econfig net$os.exe A:E 8137
       A: Driver not ethernet configurable
'hmmm...a moments pause at the keyboard.'
     f:\ econfig net$os.exe
       A: Driver not ethernet configurable

'What the heck does this mean.', I said to myself.

'This really gets me...I can run tcpip stand alone and netware stand alone
but not both together...and I don't want to run mark and release options
because my naive computer literacy students will surely mess up.', I
mumbled to myself for the Nth time.

'I should have bought WD boards instead of UB boards. Too late now'...
I thought to myself again.

'I guess I will post the problem to the net, although I have not received
mail from anyone in comp.dcom.lans in 1.5 years that was using the UB NICPS2
board'.. I am saying right now.

no need to econfig the server when using the new packet drivers.
When starting the driver, use the -n option. This will cause the
packet driver to convert the normal novell packets (ala 802.3) to
blue book packets.
