In article <13130@sun.udel.edu> you write: >Hi ... I'd like some opinions on or comparisons of three different >networks. Actually, I realize that I'm talking about apples and >oranges, but here goes...Banyan & Novell (386) with its anticipated >NLM's like Remote File Management, Naming, etc. is the first set, and >LANtastic and Novell ELS and ELSII the second set to compare. I guess >what I'm really asking for is capabilities/cost for each...what do I I am managing two labs for university course work 1) 32 PS/2 70 and 80s running netware on two 80's 2) 24 Zenith AT's with Lantastic server on a 386 In a nutshell, no comparison. The utilities and functionality of Novell Netware SFT 2.15 far exceeds Lantastic. (SOrry, I don't know the prices.) Software wise, the lantastic network goes down a lot when the network is real busy. We are running it on an rs232 link. I haven't found notions of groups in lantastic. I have to add users one at a time. Our students have been compiling modula 2, C, Pascal and using windows, emacs and scheme with good performance on the novell net. Most of the stuff we do with lantastic is wordperfect and lotus classes. We have Banyan Vines and Nexos also. Unfortunately neither company supports the IBM PS/2 Ungermann Bass NIC. !!!! So I have not been able to test them with a large number of users.
