[comp.dcom.lans] PSERVER VAP with MACVAP's 1.1

mckimg@bronze.ucs.indiana.edu (08/30/90)

Has anyone had any luck running the PSERVER VAP in addition to MacVAP's 1.1
on a 2.15C Netware Server? If so, how much memory did you have, what
machine type, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Running a multiple number of VAPs on a 2.x Netware file server will reduce
the amount of available memory for FSPs. (File Service Processes) Large
hard disk directory caching will also reduce the FSP count. The MAC
VAPs are known to be memory intensive. You can either UPGRADE to 3.0,
with all it's upgrading problems or install an external bridge that can
then run the VAPs, or run PSERVER.EXE and run a remote print server.
Adding memory to the file server *might* solve a memory problem, unless
it's a memory problem of the type I described, involving low FSPs. If
you suspect you are low on FSPs, go into FCONSOLE and check the summary
screen, the count is near the top. You should have at least 3 FSPs for
proper operation. You can limp along with 2 and even 1, but you will
suffer severe performance problems if you do.

Except the Mac NLM isn't yet available. With 3.0 you ALWAYS need an
external "bridge" to run the Mac VAPs.

My opinions, of course. And don't hold me to them.
