[comp.dcom.lans] 10BASE-T and multiport transceiver boxes

The question of the day from the new 10BASE-T users on campus concerns
multiport transceiver boxes. Specifically, is it ok to attach a
multiport box to a 10BASE-T MAU? That way you can connect multiple
(thick net) hosts in an office to a single 10BASE-T port.

The manual for the 10BASE-T hub box they purchased is silent on this
issue. On the other hand, given that each 10BASE-T port is repeated,
which fixes up lost preamble bits and retimes things, it seems like
this should work ok.

Has anyone tried this? If so, were there any problems?

Thanks,

We don't have any trouble with multi-port transceivers on a
10BaseT port.

Perhaps because multiport transceivers are beyond the pale of
either Ethernet or IEEE 802.3.
