[net.unix-wizards] DEC Ethernet Terminal Server

kurt@wucs.UUCP (Kurt H. Haserodt) (07/21/85)

Looking through /sys directory on Ultrix machine at Portland Usenix I
saw some lat?.o files. I asked if this meant that DEC was going to
support the LAT under Ultrix, and got a "no comment" response.

Hopefully there are others who know more about this, and would be
willing to share their information.

Ultrix DOES support LAT protocol, but you must be running Version 1.1
or beyond.

If you are currently running version 1.0, you'll have to upgrade if you
want LAT support. If you are running version 1.1 and it is not working,
send me mail directly, and I'll try and help you correct the problem.

Let me know if I can be of anymore help,

I recall some discussion a couple of months ago about a new DEC
terminal server on Ethernet type device that uses a protocol callet LAT
or some such. I'm now in a position of wiring a large facility (25K
square feet) with Ethernet, and am looking for a terminal server as an
alternative to a dataswitch (Gandalf PACX or equivalent). Does anyone
out there have one of these DEC boxes working with 4.2? I need it to
function with 4.2 and with DECNET machines (although not at the same
time necessarily). Any hints?
