[comp.dcom.lans] Problem with Netware 386 ?

swie@cs.umn.edu (S. T. Tan) (09/25/90)

I have some problems to run Netware 386 ver. 3.1. I try to run on
either of the following file servers with no success.

File Server: IBM PS/2 Model 80 (16Mhz) ALR Veisa 386-33Mhz
4 Meg Memory 5 Meg Memory
1.44 Meg FD 1.44 Meg FD
70 Meg ESDI Hard Disk 150 Meg ESDI Hard Disk
NIC: IBM 16/4 Token Ring (MC) NIC: IBM 16/4 Token Ring (ISA)

Workstations: Compaq 286e (12Mhz)
               1 Meg Memory
               1.2 Meg Floopy Disk Drive
               No Hard Disk
               NIC: IBM 16/4 Token Ring
IBM Lan Support Programs ver. 1.10
               Compaq MS-DOS ver. 3.31

The system used to run with Netware 286 ver. 2.15 SFT level II with no
problem at all.

First, I backed up all my files from both file servers.
Then, I reformatted and compsurfed the file servers using the utilities which
are included in the Netware 386 version 3.1.

I followed exactly all the steps as described in the installation manual
and selected the default setting the to install the OS

No error messages was detected during the installation.

I also used the Token Ring Diagnostic Programs to check for any faulty
component (NIC board, MSAU, wiring), and no fault was detected.

I was able to bring the file server up with no error message at all.

Problems:
1. What does "in house version" mean ? I know that someone had asked this
question sometimes ago, but I wasn't paying too much attention at that
   time.
2. I CAN NOT copy files from a floopy disk to the file server although I
   am using the supervisor account.
But, I can copy files from the file server to the floopy disk and
from file server to another directory in the file server.
The error message was something like "Error sending message ...".
Does it mean that there is a problem with IPX/SPX for Netware 386 ?

Could anybody help me ?

Thanks in advance,
