[comp.dcom.lans] Token Ring Bridging over existing SNA lines

mercer@npdiss1.StPaul.NCR.COM (Dan Mercer) (10/10/90)

Does the following animal exist:

a 4/16 Mbit SRT Token Ring Bridge that can transfer data across an
existing 56 Kbit multipoint line servicing SNA (SDLC) IBM 3270 Cluster
Controllers. Novell Netware286 is running on one LAN, Novell Netware386
on the other. I would assume the bridge would have to employ a VTAM
negotiated session while VTAM was active, and would have to negotiate
a session in VTAM's absence.

Personally, I have my reservations about mixing transaction
processing and batch processing on the same medium, but I really have
no good idea as to the extent of the traffic or sizes of the files
being exchanged between rings. If the traffic is light or the file
sizes are generally small, than the impact should be minimal.

Anyway, thanks in advance.
