Hi, folks: I have a problem ... hopefully, some Novell expert out there can help me. My friend has a two node ELS II v2.12 network. This setup has been working for months and suddenly the non-dedicated file server hangs after about 30 seconds of loading the Netware Server softare (the whole system hangs). The file server is a 286-10 clone. It contains a 80MB MFM hard drive, a 1.2 floppy, a parallel/serial card (clone), a Western Digital MFM HD/FD controller, a true Paradise VGA card, and a Thomas Conrad TC-6142 (8-bit) ARCnet BNC card. The server runs with the Thomas Conrad in ENHANCED mode with IRQ=5 and address DC000h is used (we also tried IRQ=11 and DC000h). The workstation works fine ... except (of course) when the file server hangs. When the server hangs, the workstation reports that a file server is not found. The file server works fine WITHOUT the serial/parallel card. But without it, the file server cannot print. Things that people have told me to try and I have but nothing worked: 1. replaced the Thomas Conrad card with a new one. 2. try different network card settings. 3. replaced the serial/parallel card with another one. 4. regenerated the ELS software. 5. reloaded the NET$OS.EXE file onto the server (I don't think this was usefull at all, since the non-dedicated server must boot DOS first and run NET$OS from the floppy). Any suggestions? If you need more information, please feel free to contact me (see below). Any and all comments/suggestions/clues/etc. are welcome. I thank all of you in advance for your replies. And on my friends behalf, I thank you. __________ ___ / \ / / /_/ / /\/ _/ / / / __/. /__ / / / / / / / / "Happy Computing ..." / / Internet: Johnny.J.Chin@andrew.cmu.edu / ------- / 4730 Centre Ave. #412 BITnet: jc58@andrew \__________/ Pittsburgh, PA 15213 UUCP: ...!uunet!andrew.cmu.edu!jc58 Computer Dr. Carnegie Mellon University "If you don't like having backups ... try driving without your spare tire." ______________________________________________________________________________ Disclaimer: The views expressed herein are STRICTLY my own, and not CMU's.
