Looking for recommendations for PC network software. This application will probably not require a file server - the communications will be peer-to-peer. Any comments regarding performance, reliability, cost, and pointers to published benchmarks would be helpful. We'll be developing custom software and would like any comments on good development environments for network-based applications.
