[comp.dcom.lans] SFT 2.15 HD Tailspinning To A Crash?!

jacksond@cica.cica.indiana.edu (Richard Jackson ) (12/13/90)

For the past two (2) days I have been getting odd messages from our system.
i.e.:"Network error-I/O error reading from file" This has occurred when doing
a directory on a particular file or when trying to copy a file or listing same.

This morning I got this thrilling message:

"Volume SYS, DATA_PROC Shut Down (drive 0 failed)
 Abend:Stack overflow detected by kernel
 Power off to restart
 Running process DSKCLN"

This unit has run flawlessly for 21 months now. Not even using any Hotfix area.
Yesterday it started using in the course of the day, from the time I originally
checked, it doubled in size.

I could not use FLAG to change attributes of files but could do so under
FILER. I received thfirst error msg when trying to change atts with FLAG.
I cannot copy files I get this error with (I/O error) with FILER or NCOPY or
DOS COPY. I ncopied FLAG from one of our NW386 servers to the 2.15 server and
was then able to change atts on some of the files using FLAG!

I wonder these thoughts:

Are there any netware utils to test componet integrity without have to redo the
whole thing? Experiences with same?

Is there someplace where I can get a comprehensive listing of Novell System
Error Codes (such as code -30333?).

Other thoughts, comments, experiences welcomed. Might be worth alittle
discusson.

Oh, it's a CLUB 320 (386/20-an Everex in disguise) the hd is a WRENIV?(383MB).
Using a ADIC board for control.

Gotta go, was just told it failed again with a Directory Error...To Be Continued
Arrgghh
