Here is the address as given in RFC1060 for obtaining an Ethernet type code Xerox Corporation, Xerox Systems Institute, 475 Oakmead Parkway, Sunnyvale California, CA94086 Attn: Ms. Fonda Pallone (408)737-4652 This might induce those who thing not having a valid type field is OK, to clean up their act. You wouldn't believe the trouble you could get into without having one. BTW An IEE 802.3 length field can be told apart from a type field, because its value will always be in the range 0x0000 - 0x05dc. This is given in RFC1060 "Assigned Numbers" The next lowest type field is 0x0101 - 0x01ff which is Experimental. (RFC's can be downloaded from nic.ddn.mil in rfc:) Hope this helps. -- ============================================================================== | Hamish Marson <hamish@waikato.ac.nz> | | Computer Support Person, Computer Science Department | | University of Waikato | |Disclaimer: Anything said in this message is the personal opinion of the | | finger hitting the keyboard & doesn't represent my employers | | opinion in any way.
