I'd like to know if running vertically with 22 gauge wire (up to 130 feet, say), then switching to 24 gauge for the horizontal run of a 10BaseT segement will be worse or better than running 24 gauge throughout. Is it true that the run of 22 will buy us a bit more length on the 100 meter distance spec because of the reduced loss on the larger gauge? Or will other factors such as reflections or an impedance mismatch between the different gauges negate the possible benefit of run of 22? Note that we are not considering a complete run of 22 -- either a mix of 22/24 or only 24. Thanks. -- Robert N.
