I have an NB25 cabletron bridge that I put between two ethernet segments. The bridge replaced a repeater from cabletron. This was a monitoring setup with two network monitors on either side of the bridge. Everything worked fine for about 18 hours and then suddenly the bridge went into standby mode (it quit forwarding packets). I saw it happen with monitoring software (cisco) and so I was right on it. I toggled the power a couple of times - still in standby. This was a heavily travelled wire so I replaced the bridge with the original repeater. Admittedly, the segments that I was trying to separate were having problems. The collision rate was reaching a steady 5% with frequent spikes above 10% (spikes were lasting up to 15 seconds). Traffic rates are also high. I was hoping to track the collision rate to a specific segment/specific machine. Anyway,--anyone ever seen anything like this? The bridge failure, I mean. Already spoke to Cabletron, no luck there. thanks jy young@alw.nih.gov
