In accordance with the apparent attitude around here of keeping up with last decades' technology ( :-) ) I have been task with looking into the following items, as we try to network this place together: WAN, LAN, or both, management software. Preferrably not too expensive; less than a thousand or so $US. SNMP would be real nice. Current requirements will be two or three nets in separate plants, eventually expanding (I hope) to 20 or so facilities worldwide. X.400 and X.500 software, running under UNIX, NOVELL, or as a last resort, DOS. A dedicated DOS system would be acceptable, since I don't have to buy 286 machines--we're overloaded with them for other reasons. Any good books on large network design, setup, and management would be REAL useful; we're teaching ourselves how to do this as we go. E-mail or post as you wish; I try to read this group daily.
