[comp.dcom.lans] NFS server for DOS: beta sites wanted

rbraun@spdcc.COM (Rich Braun) (02/01/91)

After consulting with Seemong Tan (stan@cs.uiuc.edu), author of an NFS
server package for DOS called SOS (Stan's Own Server), I've decided to
try putting this system into use at my company. As of this date, I
know of no other means of running an NFS server under DOS as a gateway
to other networks such as Novell.

SOS provides the means to do this, and it's in the public domain. I
intend make this software more robust with version 2, and place the
mods back into the public domain.

You can help! First, I'm looking for beta sites to test out my changes,
and second, I'm looking for any sites which presently distribute this
software (as on sun.soe.clarkson.edu) so they can be updated.

Please send me e-mail describing how you intend to use this software
(as in what kinds of client systems, how many, what type of system you
plan to run it on--it takes a dedicated PC on the Ethernet), and how
best to distribute it to you (hopefully ftp). Also let me know if
you're interested in hacking sources or just testing binaries.

Another item which would be very helpful is a set of caching algorithms
which handle concurrency issues, etc. This software presently does not
attempt to cache file handles (except between read calls on a given
file) or data blocks.

Thanks,
-rich
