[comp.dcom.lans] What kind of packet is that ?

dhuber@aut.autelca.ascom.ch (Daniel Huber) (02/14/91)

Hi

I'd like to setup some filtering on a TransLAN III connection.
There are some packet types I did not found any description.

0800	TCP/IP
8080	TransLAN packet
0806	ARP

But what about

8037	?
3C07	?
3C09	?
8035	?

Somebody can help me out?

Daniel

I don't know about the first three but 80-35 is listed as follows:

80-35	Stanford University reserved ARP

3Cxx are for the 3COM NBP (netbios) protocol. Are you running 3+Open?

3C00 - vritual circuit data
3C01 - system
3C02 - connect request
3C03 - connect response
3C04 - connect complete
3C05 - close request
3C06 - close response
3C07 - datagram
3C08 - broadcast datagram
3C09 - clain name
3C0A - delete name
3C0B - remote adapter status request
3C0C - remote adapter status response

The 3c00 - 3c0d packets are 3Com NBP (low RAM use NetBIOS packet types.
I have never seen the 8037 type ID.

You forgot one:

3C0D - Adaptor Reset.

Also, these protocol is a simplified version of XNS (no network numbers,
routing etc).
