[comp.dcom.lans] Reboot problem on IBM token ring LAN

cfwpm@ux1.cts.eiu.edu (Bill McGown) (02/26/91)

I hope that another reader might be able to help me with a problem.
My machine (zenith 386/20mhz) is attached to a true Blue (IBM) token ring
lan (4mhz) using IBM's Token Ring Adapter card. The problem to be described
is definitely not machine specific. It appears on all machines attached to
the lan whether they are IBM, Zenith, or clone.
The problem is that when I switch from using NCSA telnet (or
other applications that use the lan card it gives me a NETBIOS ERROR and
will not access another lan server or application unless I reboot the
machine. In a days time that sometimes into 15-20 reboots. Once I have
used a lan server then if I attempt to return to NCSA telnet the same
problem is manifest. I have tried removing the TSR's that these applications
use with a "mark and release" program. No luck. From what I see each
application is initializing the adaptor card and if the next one "thinks"
that it is initialized somehow sees that as an error condition. Any help
for this would be MOST Gratefully appreciated as this has stumped our
computer services staff and me for over a year now.
